Meet Austin
If you needed to laugh, he was your guy. If you needed to cry, he was also your guy. When Austin’s friends think of him, the word BIG is what they think, yet he was about 5’9” and 135 pounds. BIG was how he lived and how he showed up for others. BIG is how he will continue to show up through the Austin Germani Memorial Fund.
In 2017, at the age of 19, Austin died by suicide. Throughout his battle with anxiety and depression, I learned from his perspective and the moment that stood out the most to me was when he asked me “why don’t people talk about mental health”. We had a deep discussion about why he felt that way. The phrase “Austin Changed My Mind” is how I will honor his life by working to create an environment where people, especially youth, feel comfortable talking about their mental well being.
William Austin Germani had a presence 100x larger than his physical body. He had the loudest voice and the biggest heart.
Austin was also a tremendous dog lover.
Dogs were a significant part of our family and a source of solace for Austin. He believed the companionship of a dog provided joy, unconditional love and purpose. For this reason, his fund will ensure those who will benefit from an emotional support animal will be able to have an appropriately trained pet to support their needs.
